Sorry for the delay ...

... but here are the updated fine and awards docs.

A couple of notable things - with just 1 more angry man or half a missed shot Nick would have been the first Stallion to hit $100 in fines. Obscene. Have just checked the tallies and we have about $200 more than last season - despite having so many games rained off!

So either we are fining too hard (yes ben, we know - you have been harping on about this for ages and ages) or our skills are getting worse. The reality is that when the Stallions are doing well and morale is good the fines are high. No-one wants to fine people when the team are having a crap season - so let's take it as a good sign.

We could consider refunding some of the Stallions who got above say $80 - or (and this idea is more fun) - make sure they drink that extra amount at the end of year!

Anyway no doubt Paddy and Hodges will have something exciting to say on the matter, and Nick will just grin and bear it in good humour (his mind still on the missed pen).

Anyway, onto last week:

Stallion - Ben B - bled from the eye for the stallions - enough said. His 3rd stallion of the season - the most decorated Stallion player - perhaps ever?

MVP:
3 - Tristin - What can you say - dude got a hatrick on his birthday - while locking up the golden boot (unless Gus can sneak 5 or Saturday, or Nick White 14) and the most MVP points for the season. Great season. Shame you won't be there for the last game.
2 - Joe - Injury finally shaken off, back to his best, and didn't even hurt anyone.
1 - Graham - Good effort at the back, pushed forward well, no nakedness. Deserved.

Pony - Gus - thankfully there is no pre game drug testing, or post game greediness testing - cause he would fail at least 1 of these. Had the frustration of setting up Tristin repeatedly - but in doing so seeing his chance of golden boot drift away. Otherwise pants.

Best fines:
- Gus - Trying to get credit for a small graze on the knee alongside ben's facial wounds. Still got the blood fine.
- Ben B - The Mankind mask - see previous photo.
- Paddy and Spencer - The 'You are not Usian Bolt' fine - tying up laces as the action unfolded around them.
- Jason - Beaten by the big and old guy.
- Nick G - Graham Henry imitation - dropping players via text.
- Nick G - Poor micromanagement - 'you will all play for 22.3 minutes!'
- Aaron - 'I'm farked, can I go off before 44.8 minutes', 'No! Come back to centreback if you are tired', ' Umm, I'm okay - never felt better'.
- Nick W - Rebelling against the system - 'f**k the strategy, I'm subbing off now'.
- Nick W - 'I had a lot of play with Tristin'.
- Ben H - General bitching.
- Paddy - 'Its gone, its gone ... or sorry its not gone.'
- Joe - The Zoolander fine - can only turn 1 way.
- Joe - 'I can only turn 1 way because of my injury'

Oh yeah, and those missed shots tables are totally wrong - I have just found tucked into the back of the book the fines written on bits of paper when Jason kept forgetting the fine book early in the season. More missed shots for everyone (including Jason!). Although it does include the last Olympic game ...

Sorry, tables have gone bung again - click on them to lose all the grunginess.

Hmmmm. At the risk of 'pulling a Hodges' and getting all bitchy about the amount of fines, it really is ridiculous how I can be up for paying more than another half of my subs in fines.

I do think we have got a lot harsher with our fining, where in previous seasons $3 was a bad day at the office, that is now the minimum for EVERYONE each game. And if you don't get to that $3, stuff starts getting made up to get you there.

Also I'd be surprised if anyone really got up to $5 at all previously, not to mention hitting that much consistently every week.

There are probably a few 'excessive' fines we don't need, or don't need to be so expensive, such as missed shots being $1 each and those $3-$5 in one hit fines!

It should be back to the old .50c for stupid stuff and that's it.

Rant over.

I'm all about encouraging missed shots.

and I also think that at least the top 6 missed fined players as currently standing should have money shaved off their account. We actually don't need that much for our end of season. The fines are all about taking the piss. Actually making people pay that full amount is another question. Nick, for example, has been well and truly humiliated through the fining process, he shouldn't also have to pay a hundy.

We have always said we would assess this at the end of the season and the time is now. Let's find a cut off point.

But Nick - it must be said - you are probably the major perpetuator of the harder fines (well, unless its Gus or Hodges - then i lead the charge).

Agree with Goodall entirely. Surely the whole point of fines is to have a laugh and as a compulsory savings scheme for the end of season bash. Someone being fined $100 for 14 games is a bit OTT, especially taking into account there are others who have played the same number of games with less than half of Nick's fines! Standard fines of 50c are a good idea with most people being fined $2-$3 each game with a cap of $5. There was one game where about 4 of us got fined about $14 each! That way everyone contributes roughly the same to the end of season do.

Also if people are fined $2 or $3 every week it's much easier to insist they pay on the day and therefore reduce the workload on the fine master and the risk of people not paying up..

For this season what about making the max season fine say $70 and refunding anybody (i.e. Ben H) who has paid more than this already...

We could always go the Sealords route and make each fine a shot. imagine that - Paddy - 7 missed shots, line them up! I'd rather pay a buck.

It seems from the list of fines that there is a median of $55 - with Robin, Jason and I on the mark. perhaps that's the ballpark figure? Although it will raise to $60 after tomorrow.

Just had another thought re managing fines for next season - maybe a bit more rigour to the rules. I.e. max 2 mins spent on each person, the finee cannot defend themselves, once the fine master has moved on to the next person you can't go back and add fines to a previous finee etc. That way 30 mins wraps up the whole team which is easier to be done on the side afterwards, or if we go to the pub easier to sell to wives / girlfriends etc....

we're getting promoted !!!! capital soccer reckon after a full round 1 we we're 2nd on the table and thats enough for us to go up to div6 ??

nick can you clarify that though

Watch out Raiders - we are coming for you! Worth it just for the local derby. Shame the other uni team is getting relegated - they better uphold our fin Div 7 record.

To be fair a shambles though - magpies should clearly go up. Would say the same for marist if there keeper wasn't so punchy.

Don't get too excited, i haven't heard anything about going off just the first round, even if cap soccer have listed the table after one round on the web site.

There is no notice yet and no mention of when the final game for the season is, so who knows we may get more than one more game...

Agree with the rest of talk around fines, it's supposed to be for shit throws, ugly slips, crap bicycles and actual angry men, not genuine footballing skills.

Admitadly i am the one trying to fine pretty hard, mostly because I'm trying to get everyone fined as much as me. The biggest problem is that 'people in glass houses...'

Anyway, a cap of $70 sounds good, that means there will still be a bit of variability between people but nothing to completely break the bank!

'shit throws, ugly slips, crap bicycles and actual angry men' - do you mean Hodges?

yeah there was a letter sent round all the clubs, there is a blog on here somewhere from late july about it and also a copy posted on yellow fever web in regional football forum. which gives several options as too how to finish the season

Agreed with the fines. I dont know if there should be a cap on it (if someone turns up late, hung-over, plays shit, and gives away a goal that costs the game fine the shit out of him), but there is no need to get silly about things. $1 for a missed shot is ridiculous. Talk about dis-couraging shooting (if you miss a sitter then that's a $1). The good thing about the cricket fines is that there is a formular. Obviously you cant do that in football but no need to make shit up for the sake of things. $2-4 a game is more than enough.

Also, while not wanting to put my head into a season that I didn't play, if you did get promoted, would you consider rejecting it and offer it to one of the other teams? I just think back to the cricket team and how we got promoted when we didn't finish in top two and we struggled for a while.

Good luck for the last game boys.
