So we won three nil today, lets be honest we we're pretty bloody lucky at times, there we're moments in the first half where we should have been 3 if not 4 goals down.Was it the early start, was it the fact that Stop Out were actually quite good, well maybe a mixture of both really.
On a beautiful day for football in Wellington, Nairnville park was the scene for a game that on paper looks like the stallions won comfortably,but in reality wasn't quite the case.
Stop Out kicked off and really made U.S work today and we did ourselves no favours in the first half, little talking amongst the team bad positioning and in decisiveness on the ball meant that we we're guilty of letting Stop Out have to much of the ball in dangerous areas of the field.
The Defence being stretched at times were only saved by Ben Brooks who kept us in it with some excellent saves.
It wasn't entirely all doom and gloom, having taken a long time to settle into the game the forward momentum of the stallions began to build and slowly through the half we began to push forward with real intent.some good ball play had Paul in a great position to score, but his shot was sent over the bar.
Paddy took a corner which never went in and we had a chuckle as Goodall had been in his ear about the great corner he'd sent in the week before which Hodges scored off(it was a real you had to be there moment).
Anyway we finally began to put a string of passes together and that's how the first goal came from a string of passes that would find Tristin who was able to reel off a shot and against the run of play put the stallions 1-0 up with only minutes to go in the first half, leaving Stop Out some what shell shocked.
Half time
To go into the half leading 1-0 was a big spur for U.S as was the half time team talk,we started the 2nd half much more brightly and attacked the stop out goal from the kick off.
It only took three or so minutes,before Tristin found the back of the net again.
Another fantastic goal (he really can run rings around defenders)from our new goal scoring machine.
That took the wind right out of Stop Out and at 2-0 up we were never going to let them get back into the game, the defence finally getting their A game going and along with help from the midfield,stood firm and shut down the Stop Out attacks,which, were more and more frequent as the battled to get a goal and get back into the game somehow.
In fact it took everyone from the keeper who again made some great saves from some equally great strikes from Stop out,through to the two strikers dropping back in cover to help U.S keep our 3rd clean sheet of the season.
A bit of blood sweat and possibly tears helped also,but the goal scoring wouldn't stop.
Ben Hodges finding himself with space inside the stop out box and after dinking past one of the defenders and getting the ball onto his right foot,put a shot firmly into the back of the net to have the stallions 3-0 up. and the game well and truly over with still 15 minutes left to play.

Yeah, well put Corey - kinda felt like a 3-2 game instead of a very decisive sounding 3-0. Still to play one of our worst games (or at least halves) of the season and win by 3 ...
Were there any candidates to go into our goal of the season poll? I think probably not - Hodges's was the closest but not as classy as those that are there? The celebration ruined it for me.
It was a primal sort of a celebration for sure. The cry i made was somewhere between a woman in labour and a frog being eaten alive by a snake.
It was the incredulity of getting a shot on target and with power and with my right foot that kind of sent me in to a semi trance like state. To be honest with you if it was an either/or situation i would drop the header goal for yesterday's.
The header i just stood there waiting for the peach of a corner to land on my head but the goal yesterday i had to create. However don't get me wrong drop both of them from the list if you want...regardless of any goal of the season competition they will live on in my dreams...I hope i got fined heavily for my celebration.
Screw that - the way i see it from the general Stallions viewpoint yesterdays goal was amusing and I'm glad you are excited you can use both feet, but it was nothing on the headed goal which was a perfect combo of a great cross and finish - the Stallions ain't just about Ben H and his shonky right boot! So unless the wider Stallions community speaks up, yesterday's goal does not make the best of 08 list, but no doubt Louie and Jesse will be hearing about it for the next 50 years or so - I can even see a backyard re-enactment or two.
I ain't even just about my shonky right foot- my left foot can be breathtakingly skew-whiff as well. I am ambi-undextrous you might say.
Word on the street is that Jamie has footage of all Saturday's goals which he recorded from the proverbial grassy knoll. Locked away forever in the CIAs vaults? or will the world (or at least me)discover the truth about my goal on this blog sometime soon?
